Get HTML Emails on BlackBerry 8700c by Upgrading to BlackBerry OS v4.5
The BlackBerry 8700 is a workhouse smartphone, with many units in service. It comes with BlackBerry OS v4.2. With this version, one can only read emails in text format. HTML emails will show as large blocks of text. In order to get HTML emails, one has to upgrade to BlackBerry OS 4.7.
The first thing to do is download and install BlackBerry Destkop Manager v4.7 on your Windows station.
– In BlackBerry Desktop Manager:, perform a full backup of the BlackBerry.
– Still in BlackBerry Desktop Manager:, in “Main Menu”, go to “Application Loader”. Select “Update Software”. Select the new OS and update the BlackBerry.
– The BlackBerry will reboot with the new OS. You may have to go to your BIS home page, e.g., https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw&locale=en, https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=mycingular, http://att.blackberry.com, and recreate your inboxes.
– On the BlackBerry itself:, go to your “Messages” inbox. From the scroll wheel menu, select “Options” –> “Email Settings”. For each message service, set “Enable HTML Email” to “Yes”.
Congratulations. Your BlackBerry 8700 can now read HTML emails in their original intended HTML format.
